Last Updated: January 29, 2027At Canadian Tire, we are driven by our brand purpose: to make life in Canada better. This includes earning and maintaining the trust of our customers through the responsible collection, use, sharing and protection of personal information.
We use data, analytics, and technology to improve our products, services and customer experience, and we believe it is important to be transparent about the personal information we collect, how we use it, and when we share it.
This Privacy Charter explains how the Canadian Tire family of companies handles your personal information and the choices available to you. You can review the sections below to learn more about our privacy practices
Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited has one of the largest retail networks in Canada, including the following banners:
All Canadian Tire and Party City stores are operated by independent dealers and all Canadian Tire gas bars (whether branded as Gas+ or another brand) are operated by independent retailers. In addition, some retail stores operating under the banners listed above are operated by independent franchisees, including all Sports Experts, Atmosphere, Sports Rousseau, Hockey Experts, and L’Entrepôt du Hockey stores, and some Marks/L'Équipeur stores. All other retail locations are owned and operated by Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited.
In addition, Canadian Tire operates Triangle Rewards, one of Canada’s largest loyalty programs, offers financial products and services through Canadian Tire Bank (Bank), and operates the Canadian Tire Roadside Assistance program.
In this Charter, “we”, “us”, “our” or “Canadian Tire” refers to the Canadian Tire family of companies, which is Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited together with its subsidiaries. 1
This document references the trade names, trademarks, and service marks of the Canadian Tire family of companies. All such marks remain the property of their respective owners. For ease of reading, trademark and service mark symbols, ® and TM , have been omitted throughout this document.

This Privacy Charter applies when our customers and others interact with us
This Privacy Charter relates to personal information collected by the Canadian Tire family of companies, including when you:
- Shop at our stores online or in person,
- Sign up for Triangle Rewards,
- Apply for financial products or services,
- Use our websites or mobile applications (apps) (referred to as our platforms),
- Contact or interact with us, and
- In other circumstances set out in this Privacy Charter.
We sometimes aggregate or anonymize information about our customers so that it can no longer be used to identify an individual. We may use this information to conduct analytics, understand trends, and develop audiences for marketing and business purposes. Because this information does not identify individuals, it is not treated as personal information under this Privacy Charter.
As described in “About Canadian Tire,” some retail locations, including all Canadian Tire retail stores and gas bars (whether branded as Gas+ or another brand), or other retail locations, are operated by independent dealers, retailers or franchisees. When you provide personal information to one of these independent operators, their privacy practices and policies will apply to that information.

The personal information we may collect, use and share includes:
- Contact information, including your name, email address, phone number, shipping/billing address, and residential address.
- Purchase information, including information about your purchases, returns, exchanges, shopping patterns and other transactions.
- Payment information, including your payment method, payment card information, and transaction details related to payment.
- Vehicle information, including details about your vehicle to support automotive services and roadside assistance.
- Loyalty account information, including registration information (name, age, year of birth, email address, address, postal code, phone number, preferred language and any other details you provide to us), and account credentials (such as username and password), and account activity (including transactions, transaction history and payment information).
- Financial information, including your date of birth, government-issued ID, employment history, assets, income, debt, other financial commitments, and other information you provide when applying for or using a Canadian Tire Bank financial product or service. Where required or permitted for a particular financial product or service, we may also collect your Social Insurance Number ( SIN ), including for tax reporting purposes. Following account opening, we also collect account activity (including your transactions with us and other merchants).
- Credit information, including information in your credit report and information about current and past debts, payment history and credit accounts (for Canadian Tire Bank products).
- Online activity, including information about how you use our websites and apps, your browsing and search activity, the device and network you use to access our platforms, your interests and preferences, and how you interact with our ads and content, including through cookies and tracking technology.
- Video footage, from security cameras at our locations.
- Other information you share with us, including information you provide by phone or through other customer service channels, credentials or other information you provide to connect third-party accounts or services with us (such as SecureKey), information provided about you by others, such as when someone purchases a gift card for you or adds you as a supplementary cardholder on their credit card account, and information you provide when you apply for employment.
A. To provide products, services and programs
We use your personal information to deliver and administer our products, services and programs, including to:
- Complete purchases and other transactions, including processing your payments, refunds and exchanges, and providing electronic receipts,
- Administer Triangle Rewards, including managing your account, tracking the Canadian Tire Money you earn and redeem, providing program benefits, conducting analytics to assess and improve the program and communicating with you about Triangle Rewards, and
- Verify your identity when you contact us, link accounts, apply for financial products, or access our platforms or services.
- When you make a purchase in-store or online, we collect your payment information to process the purchase, including refunds and exchanges. For online purchases, we also collect contact information to fulfill your order, provide you with an electronic receipt and communicate with you. If you provide your email address during an in-store transaction, we may use it to send you an electronic receipt.
- When you join Triangle Rewards, we keep records of transactions made with us, and our loyalty program partners, using your Triangle Rewards account or other eligible payment methods. We use this information to track the Canadian Tire Money you earn and redeem, analyze and improve the program, and better understand how we can serve you.
- If you receive automotive services from a Canadian Tire retail store, we may collect information about your vehicle, along with your contact information. To provide roadside assistance, we may collect your vehicle’s location.
- Canadian Tire Bank collects your contact, financial, and credit information to verify your identity when you apply for or access our financial products and services. We may also obtain information from telecommunications providers and credit reporting agencies to verify your identity when opening an account.
B. To provide financial products and services from Canadian Tire Bank
For customers (and prospective customers) of Canadian Tire Bank, we use your personal information to provide financial products and services, including to:
- Offer or recommend financial products and services and assess your eligibility for them,
- Open and administer your accounts and financial products, and
- Meet our legal and regulatory obligations, including identity verification, tax reporting and other requirements applicable to the Bank and the financial products and services we provide.
- When you apply for a financial product or service, Canadian Tire Bank collects your contact, financial, and credit information to assess and process your application. We also collect this information to administer your account and provide you with account-related information. If you apply for a credit card, the Bank may collect credit information from credit reporting agencies to assess your creditworthiness and help prevent and detect fraud.
- We collect credit information on an ongoing basis while you hold a credit product with the Bank, and for a reasonable period afterward, to manage your account and credit risk, including monitoring your creditworthiness, administering credit limits, supporting collection activities and assessing your eligibility for other financial products and services.
C. To communicate with you including personalized offers, and advertisements
We use your personal information to communicate with you and provide relevant information, offers and experiences, including to:
- Send you offers, promotions, contests, event information, product alerts, surveys and other communications by email, direct mail and other channels,
- Personalize your experience on our websites, apps and other channels,
- Deliver personalized advertising on our platforms and through third-party advertising platforms,2
- Connect you with offers from our Canadian Tire marketing network partners, 3 including personalized offers, promotions and advertising in-store and online, and measure the effectiveness of campaigns,
- Administer contests, promotions, surveys and events, and
- Respond to questions, comments and requests you submit to us.
- If you contact us, we collect your contact information and any other details you provide so that we can respond to your inquiry or request. We may also record or transcribe calls and web chats for quality assurance, training, resolving customer issues, and record-keeping purposes.
- When you browse our websites or use our apps, we collect information about your online activity, interactions with our ads and services, and location to better understand your interests and preferences and provide you with more relevant content, offers and promotions on our platforms and through the third-party ad platforms we work with.
- We may also use this information to personalize marketing communications we send you, including by email, text message, direct mail and other channels.
- We may use your loyalty account information, purchase information and online activity to provide you with relevant offers from Canadian Tire marketing network partners in our stores, on our platforms, and through third-party websites and advertising platforms.

D. To improve our business, products and services
We may use your personal information, including feedback through product reviews or surveys, to better understand our customers and improve and develop our business, products, services and customer experiences, including to:
- Conduct analytics for research and business purposes, including improving or developing products, services and customer experiences, enhancing our loyalty programs, and supporting business decisions,
- Develop offers, promotions and marketing campaigns, and
- Measure and improve the effectiveness of Canadian Tire’s marketing activities and campaigns.
- We collect payment information, purchase information, online activity and account activity to better understand customer preferences, identify trends, and generate insights that inform our products, services, pricing, offers, promotional activities and broader business decisions.
- We may combine information from our platforms, loyalty programs, services and stores with information from other members of the Canadian Tire family of companies and third parties. We may also infer information, such as shopping patterns or preferences to better understand our customers and our business, and to improve customer experiences.
E. To protect our customers and our business
We use your personal information to help protect our customers, employees, business and property, manage risk, and meet our legal and regulatory obligations, including to:
- Maintain the safety and security of our customers, employees, business and property,
- Monitor, investigate and respond to incidents, complaints and claims, and enforce our contracts and other legal rights,
- Prevent, detect and investigate fraud, security threats and other potentially harmful, unauthorized or unlawful activity, and
- Respond to requests from law enforcement, regulators and other government authorities, and comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- We may collect and use any of the information described in this Charter to prevent, detect and investigate fraud, theft, and other potentially harmful, unauthorized or unlawful activity.
- We use video surveillance and other technology at certain of our locations to help protect the safety and security of our customers, employees and property. Locations that use video surveillance post signage to notify you.
2 “ Advertising platforms ” or “ third-party ad platforms ” refers to third-party advertising and social media platforms, such as Google, Facebook and Instagram. These third parties help serve personalized ads on their platforms and third-party websites.
3 We work with product manufacturers, suppliers, and other companies to provide you with offers, promotions, and advertisements both in-store and online (also known as a “ retail media network ”). These marketing network partners are companies that are not part of the Canadian Tire family of companies.
A. Within the Canadian Tire family of companies
We share personal information within the Canadian Tire family of companies to operate our business and provide shared services across our companies, conduct analytics to improve our products, services and programs, develop and provide personalized offers and promotions, protect our customers and businesses, and for other purposes described in this Privacy Charter.
For example, if you have a Canadian Tire Bank-issued credit card, the Bank may share certain account and transaction information with other members of the Canadian Tire family of companies to administer Triangle Rewards and other cardholder benefits, support account servicing, provide personalized offers and services, help prevent and detect fraud, and other purposes described in this Privacy Charter.
B. With our service providers
We share your personal information with service providers that perform services on our behalf and help us operate our business. Our service providers are required to protect your personal information and may only use it to provide services to us and for the purposes we authorize.
These service providers may support functions such as payment processing, fulfillment, collections, information technology, data analytics, marketing, administrative and professional services, security, identity verification, fraud prevention and employment application and background checks. The personal information we share depends on the products and services you use and the services the service provider performs on our behalf.
C. With third parties, such as our loyalty program partners, advertising platforms, and fulfillment partners
In the course of providing our products, services, and programs, we share personal information with third parties. These third parties may handle your personal information in accordance with their own privacy policies. This may include:
- Loyalty program partners, so that you can earn and redeem loyalty points, receive program benefits, and so that we can administer and improve our loyalty programs. The information we share may include a unique identifier that does not directly identify you and that is used to link your account, provide program benefits, and administer the program.
- Advertising platforms including social media platforms to personalize and deliver more relevant advertising on our websites and apps and through third-party ad platforms and websites, and to measure the effectiveness of our advertising. The information we share may include masked or hashed versions of contact information, other basic personal information and purchase information. These advertising platforms may also use the information, including to improve how they market products and services. D. With payment networks and other financial services providers
If you are a customer of Canadian Tire Bank, we share payment, purchase, account and other relevant information with payment card networks, payment processors and other participants in the payment system so they can help us process transactions, deliver their services to you, conduct analytics and meet their own operational, security, fraud prevention, legal and regulatory requirements. This may include:
- To offer a digital wallet, tokenized card, account linking services or digital payment services at checkout. For example, we will share some contact and payment information with payment card networks to enable Mastercard Click to Pay or a similar digital payment service at checkout.
E. With credit reporting agencies
If you are a customer or prospective customer of Canadian Tire Bank, the Bank may share your personal information with credit reporting agencies to verify your identity, assess your application, manage your ongoing use of our products and services, help keep your credit file accurate and up to date, help prevent and detect fraud, and meet other credit reporting, legal and regulatory requirements.
Information we provide to credit reporting agencies may be added to your credit file and made available by those agencies to other organizations that are authorized to obtain it. For example, if you let the Bank share your SIN with credit reporting agencies, they may use it to confirm future reporting agency requests by us or third parties.
F. With law enforcement agencies, regulators and other third parties
To protect our rights, and manage our business and legal needs, we may share your personal information with other third parties. This may include:
- Law enforcement agencies, investigative partners, financial institutions, fraud prevention and other service providers to prevent, detect, investigate and respond to fraud and other unauthorized or illegal activity, protect the rights, safety and property of our customers, employees and business, and respond to requests for information or emergencies. We may also share certain information with our independent dealers, franchisees or retailers operating Canadian Tire retail stores and gas bars for this purpose.
- When it is relevant to a business transaction, such as a sale of part or all of any Canadian Tire assets or company, or to securitize our assets.
- Government or regulators to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations such as our tax and anti-money laundering reporting obligations.
- Other third parties when we have your consent, or when not otherwise prohibited by law.

A. Cookies and tracking technology
Cookies and digital engagement tools. We use tools like cookies, tags, pixels, web beacons and similar technology to automatically collect certain information about how you interact with us including our websites, apps, emails, text messages, and ads.
We collect this information about your online activity to help us understand how our digital platforms are used, track our engagement with you across channels, improve our websites and apps, provide recommendations, and personalize your experience and marketing communications.
- Device and network information. We collect information about the device and network you use to access our websites or apps, such as IP address, device type, browser type, and account and other unique identifiers. We also collect location data based on your IP address if you have your location services enabled when accessing our platforms, which is used for tools like our in-app/website store locator or to display in-store features or offers. This does not include detailed location data.
- Usage information. We collect information about your online activity on our websites and apps, including the links or features you have clicked on or used, and event stream data like the amount of time spent on particular webpages, and other websites you have visited. For Triangle Rewards members, we may associate your browsing activity with your account when you are logged in or otherwise identified as a member.
- Message engagement. We use pixels or other technology to collect information about whether you opened, forwarded or clicked any links in emails or text messages from us.
Your choices for cookies and data preferences. You have control over how we use cookies and other technology and share personal information. To manage your cookie settings and data and privacy preferences, see “Your Privacy Rights and Choices" below. You can also adjust your browser settings to refuse optional cookies or opt out of personalized (interest-based) advertising from many advertising platforms, third-party websites and apps at youradchoices.ca.
Web analytics. We use third-party companies to analyze how you interact with our websites, apps and advertising platforms.
- Google Analytics. You can learn more about how Google uses information from websites or apps that use Google’s services and how to adjust your browser settings to opt out of Google Analytics.
- Meta Pixel. Meta (which owns Facebook and Instagram) also may provide us with information associated with a Meta account you have and may use the data collected on our websites and apps to personalize ads across its own advertising network. Third-party ad platforms use tracking technology. The third-party ad platforms we work with may also use cookies and similar tools to show you our ads on social media and other websites (like Facebook or Instagram), including offers based on products you have viewed or purchased. See “To communicate with you including personalized offers and advertisements” for more details.
B. Third-party websites and content
Third-party links. Our websites may include links to non-Canadian Tire websites. We do not control these websites, and you should review their privacy policies before engaging with them.
Social media websites, plug-ins, and apps. If you engage with us and are on social media, we may have access to your public contact information, profile photo, gender and other information associated with your social media account.
C. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automated decision-making
AI and machine learning. We use AI and machine learning technologies to support activities such as research, product development, customer service, credit risk, fraud prevention, and marketing. When AI or machine learning tools have access to personal information, we use them in accordance privacy laws and our internal responsible AI practices.
Automated decision-making. We may use automated decision-making5 tools that use personal information and other information to support activities such as product and service applications, security monitoring, employment screening, and prevention of fraud and other unauthorized or illegal activity. Depending on the circumstances, these tools may incorporate AI or machine learning technologies or operate using predefined business rules. For example, when processing applications for our products and services, AI may help determine whether you qualify for a banking product. Where appropriate, decisions supported by automated tools may also involve human review.
5 Automated decision-making involves the use of technology to make a decision with limited or no human involvement.
We use security measures to protect your information
We strive to maintain appropriate safeguards and security measures such as data encryption, access controls, policies and procedures, employee training and system monitoring intended to protect your personal information, manage privacy incidents, communicate with you if sensitive data is at risk, and retain and destroy information securely.
Our Chief Privacy Officer oversees our privacy program and works in close coordination with our information security and technology risk management programs.
You can also help protect your information by keeping your passwords and other login credentials confidential and notifying us promptly if you believe they have been lost, stolen, or compromised.
Personal information about minors
If you are under the age of 18, we encourage you to involve a parent or legal guardian when providing personal information to us.
If you are a parent or legal guardian and believe that a minor under your care has provided us with personal information without your consent, you may ask us to review the information and, where appropriate, remove it from our records. There may be circumstances where we are unable to remove a minor’s personal information, including where we are required by law to retain it or where the information relates to a legitimate transaction or application submitted by the minor (such as a job application or purchase that a minor made in their own name).
We transfer information across borders
We may transfer your personal information to service providers or other trusted third parties that are located outside of your province, territory, or Canada. In those cases, personal information may be accessed by government, regulators, and law enforcement agencies in that region if the law allows it.
Your consent options
You have choices about how we use your personal information:
- Visit Cookie Settings of each banner or program you interact with to manage your preferences on our websites, including to opt in or out of cookies and personalized marketing based on this technology.
- Visit the Preference Centres of each banner you interact with to manage your data and privacy preferences on our websites and apps. By adjusting your data and privacy preferences in one banner’s preference centre, it applies to all retail banners. - Unsubscribe using the link in your email, or reply STOP in text messages, to stop receiving marketing offers from that banner, or contact our Customer Service and Operations team.

In some cases, consent is necessary to provide you with a particular product or service, and if you choose to withdraw your consent, we may no longer be able to provide that product or service to you.
How to access, update or correct your personal information
You may request access to, update, or correct your personal information by writing to us or by contacting our "Customer Relationship Contact Centre" or by calling 1-866-846-5841.
Certain information associated with your Triangle Rewards account or Canadian Tire Bank account may also be updated through our website or mobile apps. We may need to verify your identity or request additional information before we can respond to your request. If we are unable to fulfill your request, we will explain the reason. Depending on where you live, you may be able to make other privacy requests, such as asking for personal information to be removed from our systems. Contact us for more information.
